Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single released by Swedish Electro-House DJ Alessandro Lindblad (a.k.a Alesso), after signing with Def Jam/EMI UK. The 7-minute banger had been a staple in Alesso's live sets for several months prior to its release. "I wanted to make a massive song that would literally make people want to tear off the roof," he said.

Alesso is far from the first to advocate roof destruction in the name of a good party. George Clinton asked his funk followers to "Tear the Roof off the Sucker," and an early rap jam sets it on fire.
  • The song's music video was the first ever to be premiered on photo and video sharing app Snapchat. Alesso made the clip available to the service's half a billion daily users before any other platform.
  • The song is Alesso's homage to the underground. "I hadn't produced a track like that for a really long time," he told Cuepoint. "I had been putting out singles, and it had been a long time since I put out something that was very rave-ish and underground, really. I started making crazy beats and eventually that track came about. I love that track a lot because its very different than all of the other songs that I produced before."
