Songfacts®:

  • This is one of three new tracks included on Devotion: Vital Special Edition, a deluxe version of Anberlin's 2012 Vital album. Frontman Stephen Christian told AntiMusic the song was inspired by an adventure he had with some buddies biking through the streets of his hometown late one night. "One of my friends is big into fix gear/10 speed bikes so we all met up late one spring night and headed through the nearly empty streets of Nashville," he recalled. "It was one of the most alive I have ever felt the city, speeding downhill in silence when its usually a buzzing metropolis."

"There is something invigorating about empty big cities, lit up for no one, there for the taking for anyone," continued Christian. "As the song evolved through the demos I realized that any city a person is in, big or small, empty or alive, is there for the conquering for those willing to take it on."
