Album: Mirage Rock (2012)

Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Band of Horses' fourth album, Mirage Rock, is a slice of pounding, lo-fi indie rock. Frontman Ben Bridwell told UK newspaper The Sun: "Bill Reynolds (bass guitar) wrote the music and sent it to me on a day off in Madrid or Barcelona. My inspiration came from being a sports fan and hating the montage music that usually goes with sports broadcasts. I wanted to embrace the cliché, make a mockery of it, and give those producers a better option of a song to play for the Super Bowl."
  • The album title is partly a play on words, as Bridwell wrote a lot of the songs in his garage. Keyboardist Ryan Monroe explained to Streaming service Spotify, the band, "also like that idea that rock music itself is like a mirage, you get too close to it and there's nothing there."
