Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Cheryl Cole's fourth album, the song features British rapper Tinie Tempah. Cole debuted the song on June 2, 2014 on BBC Radio 1, Capital FM and KISS FM and performed it for the first time five days later on the final of the eighth series of Britain's Got Talent.
  • The song was co-written and produced by Wayne Wilkins, who also helmed Cole's debut solo single "Fight For This Love."
  • The music video was directed by Colin Tilley and shot in May 2014 in London's Underground Club. Speaking about the clip, Cole revealed: "The video isn't what I've done before and in terms of lighting and stuff, it's a bit more grimy!"

"Cos the songs quite up, and pop, it's got that feel, so I wanted it to have the urban twist," she added. "It's a bit more of that urban vibe."
  • Speaking about the inspiration for the Only Human album title on The Graham Norton Show, Cole said: "I was exhausted, I'd had a solo tour and then toured with Girls Aloud so I took a year off to be with my family. It was the first time off I'd had in 10 years – it was a normal time."

"I did party a lot," she added. "I needed to let loose and it was the best thing I could do. The title sums up that time."
  • This was the fourth UK #1 single for Cole, following "Fight For This Love" "Promise This" and "Call My Name." She became the third British female in chart history to achieve a quartet of chart-toppers, after Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora.
  • The song was originally recorded by Kylie Minogue for her 2014 Kiss Me Once album, but the Aussie singer's management Roc Nation did not like it deeming it "too pop". Wilkins later gave the track to Cheryl to record and the singer re-wrote several of the verses to make it her own. It was also Cheryl's idea to get Tinie Tempah to rap on the tune.
