Songfacts®:

  • This is the fifth single from French dance producer and DJ, David Guetta's fourth studio album, One Love.
  • The song features the vocals of American gospel singer Chris Willis, who has previously collaborated with Guetta on several of the French producer's other hits including "Just A Little More Love" and "Love Is Gone."
  • The single version is a revamp of the original album track, which is titled "Gettin' Over." As well as Willis, the updated production features additional vocals from Fergie and LMFAO. Guetta said: "I'm really excited about the new mix of 'Gettin' Over You.' Fergie's and Chris Willis' powering vocals combined with LMFAO on the mic results in a dance floor explosion unlike anything else being heard right now."

Said Willis: "It was really, really incredible. I was really intimidated because I was familiar with The Black Eyed Peas and had followed their career. There was Fergie right there, in all of her glory, singing and being the diva. I hadn't really had a whole lot of experience with videos, so watching the directors and all the dancers and all of that was just really overwhelming. But it was a really good idea, the concept that David had to invite Fergie and LMFAO on the record. I think that really took it far beyond." (Here's our full interview with Chris Willis interview)
  • LMFAO's Redfoo discussed the reworked version of this song with MTV News: "The concept is, you're in love with a girl and then you guys separate," he said, then joked, "She probably got with Lil Jon or somebody," before continuing, "So I'm gonna party till you come get me."
  • Redfoo recalled that their collaboration came together after a Black Eyed Peas show in New York. "We met backstage after a show at Madison Square Garden, and [Guetta] gave us the track and was like, 'Yo, I want y'all to do something with this.' Baboom!" Redfoo recalled. "We took it back to the hotel, and we got a bottle of Patron ... and then we recorded our vocals in the hotel with a couple of female spectators. And then we sent it off to him, and he does his magic to it. Boom!"
  • Guetta previously worked with Fergie when he helmed The Black Eyed Peas track "I Gotta Feeling," and the song's music video is a nod to that previous collaboration. He explained to MTV News: "The video is the story of what happened to me when I came to produce 'I Gotta Feeling' for the Black Eyed Peas. It was my first time in that studio called Record Plant. I was so impressed, and we started to work with Will.I.Am and more and more artists were coming to say, 'Hello,' and were like, 'Oh, this music is different.' And they were staying. Girls were starting to dance on the couch.

So the inspiration for my video is really that. We're in recording sessions - me, Fergie, LMFAO, Chris Willis - and then more and more people are partying in the studio. We party in the streets. Partying in the area... partying in the city."
  • On May 19, 2010 it was announced that this was the billionth track to be identified by commercial mobile phone based music identification service Shazam.
  • The dance crew in the video are JabbaWockeeZ, who won the first season of America's Best Dance Crew.
