Songfacts®:

  • "Eusexua" is the lead single and title track from FKA Twigs' third album. The song introduced a new direction in Twigs' musical style, blending her signature ethereal sound with more dance-oriented elements.
  • At the heart of the track is the titular concept of "eusexua," a term coined by Twigs herself to describe the feeling of "when everything moves out the way, everything in your mind is completely blank and your mind is elevated." Twigs' vocals evoke a siren's call in her pursuit of connection beyond this earthly plane.
  • The track is heavily influenced by techno, inspired by Twigs' experiences in Prague's underground rave scene when she spent a few months living there. It starts with a pared-down, almost hypnotic synth line paired with Twigs' trademark breathy vocals before evolving into a dancey beat.

Twigs told BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders about discovering Prague's underground techno scene. "It was just incredible," she said. "I was like driving an hour to the middle of nowhere, to the side of a motorway, thinking, surely, nothing exists there. And then through the fog, I just would hear the four full beat of the dance music. So I found Prague incredibly inspiring. And through that, I've just kind of been on the hunt to feel that feeling I call Eusexua over the past couple of years."
  • FKA Twigs produced "Eusexua" alongside Koreless, and Eartheater. Ethan P. Flynn also helped compose the music.

Frequent Twigs collaborator Koreless, born Lewis Roberts, is a Welsh electronic musician, DJ, and producer who is known his experimental production style.

Eartheater, whose real name is Alexandra Drewchin, is an American multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and vocalist. Her music pushes boundaries in the experimental and avant-garde pop scene.

Ethan P. Flynn co-wrote three songs on Twigs' 2019 album Magdalene.
  • Directed by London-based photographer and videographer Jordan Hemingway, the music video for "Eusexua" begins in a bland corporate office setting before transitioning into elaborate, otherworldly choreography. It features Twigs and dancers transforming from office attire to more liberated forms of dress and incorporates themes of liberation and transcendence through dance and music. Think Working Girl meets a fever dream, but with rhythm.
  • "Eusexua" triumphed at the UK Music Video Awards, winning Best Pop Video - UK, Best Choreography for Zoi Tatapoulos and Best Editing for Charlie Von Rotberg. Twigs also scored another win, taking home Best Alternative Video - UK for "Striptease."
