  • The second single from Tattoo for the US market received its American radio premiere on the August 26, 2013 show of On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Speaking of the song, Derulo said: "'Marry Me' is one of those very pulling heart strings kind of record, it's very different than 'The Other Side' … Basically it's talking about getting ready for that moment when I ask you to marry me."
  • Speaking on the red carpet of the 2013 MTV VMAs, DeRulo told E! News the melodic ballad was written about his partner, Jordin Sparks. He revealed: "It is about Jordin, actually, and it's talking about how amazing it will be when I get down on one knee and it will be the greatest moment of my life."

DeRulo added: "You can't fake anything because true love is true love, and that's the basis of our relationship."
  • DeRulo revealed to Seacrest that he wrote the love song back in 2012 and his favorite lyric consists of: "105 is the number that comes to my head when I think of all the years I want to be with you." He explained: "It's one of those things you want to wake up next to that person forever so 105 is the number that I thought of."
  • The song's music video was directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Lil Wayne's "Love Me"). The clip features DeRulo's then-girlfriend Jordin Sparks as his love interest. Davis recalled to Billboard magazine: "He named it 'Marry Me,' so we were like, 'Oh, my God — is he going to propose on-set?' Obviously, that didn't happen."

The two people that played the older version of Derulo and Sparks were Derulo's grandparents.
