Songfacts®:

  • This bluesy Country-Pop tune finds Timberlake trying to find the answers to his woman troubles in the bottom of the bottle:

Bottom of the bottle to fill this empty heart up
A thousand proof don't change the truth

The song also finds Timberlake paying tribute to the blues that his hometown of Memphis is famous for.
  • David Fanning is part of New Voice, the hit-making team that has produced for Scotty McCreery ("I Don't Wanna Be Your Friend") among others." Fanning chose to cover this for his debut solo single. "It's the craziest thing to think that the biggest pop star in the world right now even knows my name," the Red Bow artist told Billboard magazine. "That's very cool."

"It's also amazing to know that someone who is as big as that is as humble to let someone who is new like me record it," he added. "I think you learn so much about Justin from him letting me do this. Anyone could have done the song from Eric Church to Luke Bryan. So for him to give his blessing on it was really cool."
  • Justin Timberlake made a surprise appearance at the 2015 CMAs performing a duet medley with Chris Stapleton of this song and Stapleton's "Tennessee Whiskey."
  • The song was released to country radio following Timberlake's performance with Chris Stapleton at the 2015 CMA Awards. The tune gradually picked up plays and entered the Billboard Country airplay chart for the week dated February 6, 2016 at #60.

This was Timberlake's first entry as a solo artist on the tally. Previously with 'N Sync, he had reached the #3 spot on the Country chart when Alabama re-recorded their hit song "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" with backing vocals from the boy band.
