Songfacts®:

  • Karol G conjures the image of a strong woman who knows her worth in her 2020 hit "Bichota." The title is a play on the Puerto Rican slang word "bichote" ("big shot"), which refers to a drug lord or mobster who commands respect. The Colombian singer wasn't interested in the drug connotation, but the power behind the term. When her then-boyfriend Anuel AA, a Puerto Rican rapper, informed her there were no female big shots in the territory, she decided to add a feminine spin to the title and a girl-power anthem was born.

In a 2020 Billboard interview, Karol G described the tune as "a moment of feeling sexy, flirtatious, daring, strong, empowered, and to a certain extent, translates into personal motivation and self-confidence. We are all super 'Bichotas' inside. It's about believing and working so that the rest of the world can see it too."
  • There actually was a famous bichota where Karol G is from. Griselda Blanco was a notorious Colombian cocaine trafficker who led a Miami-based cartel in the '70s and '80s. The 2024 Netflix miniseries Griselda, starring Sofia Vergara, is based on her story, and features Karol G in a supporting role as a sex worker and drug smuggler.
  • This won Best Reggaeton Performance at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2021.
  • This is the third single from Karol G's third studio album, KG0516. In the US, it peaked at #72 on the Hot 100, #3 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, and #1 on the Latin Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts.
  • KG0516 peaked at #20 on the all-genre Billboard 200, a feat she went on to surpass when her next release, Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), debuted at #1. Both albums also went to #1 on the Latin Albums chart.
  • Karol G resurrected the title for Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), a companion piece to her fourth album, Mañana Será Bonito, which finds her abandoning her fears and reclaiming her self-confidence.
