Songfacts®:

  • "Us Against The World" is a defiant, fist-pumping anthem in which Jesse Leach has someone's back.

I'll be the protection when you fall
    Our spirit is never ending
So tell them it's us, us against the world

The Killswitch singer makes it clear they will endure the hardships together.
  • During the second verse, Leach declares:

This catastrophe will serve to redeem our purpose
Do you believe they could never come between us?

The singer explained the lyric to Kerrang: "The song is about the idea that no matter what we're going to go through, we've got this and we're sticking together. It's a battle cry – whether that's a friendship thing, a relationship thing or people who are actually in warfare. The song is about war, but I made it so it's about a relationship as well, and that statement says that everything we're going through, all the darkness and the pain, in the end it will redeem us."
  • Jesse Leach said the listener can adapt the lyrics for their own circumstances. "It's a song about facing down the odds and finding confidence to overcome and conquer a situation," he explained. "I originally wrote it as a battle cry song with my warrior Highland Scottish, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestors in mind. However, it can be about friendship, love, or even the camaraderie of being in a band traveling the world."
  • David Brodsky and Allison Woest directed the video. They used footage culled from Killswitch Engage's August 6, 2021 livestream event that took place at The Palladium in Worcester, in the band's native Massachusetts.
