Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Lil Tjay rapping about an ex-girlfriend who hasn't moved on and is still contacting him on his phone. He sympathizes with her hurt but tells her to leave him alone as he's found a new lover.
  • Atlanta singer and rapper 6lack joins Lil Tjay halfway through the track. His verse has the same theme of an ex who is unable to move on.
  • After previewing the track several times on Twitter and TikTok, Lil Tjay released the song on February 12, 2021. He described it as "a nice Valentine's Day gift for ya."
  • Production is by:

Frequent PartyNextDoor collaborator G. Ry, whose other credits include Drake's "Laugh Now Cry Later" and Kehlani's "Toxic."

Bordeaux and Brendan "Non Native" Walsh (Lil Tjay's "Zoo York").
  • When 6lack's A&R sent him the "Calling My Phone" track, he immediately knew what he was going to say. The Atlanta artist told Billboard the production and the song that were already there made him feel "this is my bag" and he was confident he could come up with something good.

After doing his verse, 6lack left it for a couple of days, and then told his A&R he might redo it. However, after listening to it again in the car, he thought, "Oh nah. We good. (laughs) Let's send it off." Having passed the car-test, 6lack was now happy with what he'd done.
