Songfacts®:

  • Popular K-pop artists are on the whole more lyrically conservative than their American counterparts, but this solo single by Blackpink's Lisa finds her indulging in Western rap braggadocio and debauchery.

The song finds Lisa flashing her cash:

    Dolla' bills, dolla' bills
    Watch it fallin' for me
I love the way that feels

    Booty shaking, and stripping:

Twerking, twerking, when I buy the things I like
Dolla', dollas dropping on my ass tonight
  • Blackpink writers and producers Teddy Park, Bekuh Boom, R. Tee, 24 and Vince penned the song. Teddy Park also produced the track, building it around a leisurely horn loop.
  • Lisa released this as a debut solo single, alongside "Lalisa." She told Billboard that as soon as Teddy Park played her the demo, she wanted it as her first solo song.
  • "Money" was the most Shazamed K-pop song of 2022, according to Apple Music. It was followed in the list by three BTS tracks: "Moon," "Euphoria" and "Dynamite," in that order.
  • "Money" crossed one billion streams on Spotify on September 20, 2023, making Lisa the first K-pop artist to reach this milestone with a solo song.
