Songfacts®:

  • Mandisa was the ninth-place finalist in the fifth season of American Idol. Several comments were made during the competition about the singer's weight and this was one of the reasons why she entitled her debut album True Beauty. In August 2008 Mandisa decided to embark on a weight-loss program. She told Christian Music Today after eight months of dieting: "I don't just have a weight problem. I have a food addiction. So the emotional and spiritual elements have been the most difficult part of this journey by far." This song speaks of the struggles Mandisa has gone through in battling her food addiction. She explained to Christian Music Today: "If there's any one song that truly reflects what God is doing in my life, this is that song. My struggle with weight has been, and probably will continue to be, the biggest battle of my life. There are certainly physical ways in which I'm now taking control of that addiction, but more important than that, it's a spiritual warfare issue for me as well. I have to ask for God's help every single day, so I know that it's going to take a whole lot more than any diet plan or any exercise plan to set me free. He is truly my deliverer who is setting me free from all of this, and he's the reason I'm so excited about being able to sing this song."
