Songfacts®:

  • Peter Gabriel released this song on June 16, 2016 as a celebration of the life of Muhammad Ali. The track was written several years before the iconic boxer passed away after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease on June 3, 2016. Gabriel explained in a Facebook post how he had been motivated to write the track after becoming inspired by the life of self-proclaimed "The Greatest." and his battle for black civil rights and equality.

"I wrote a song a few years back - 'I'm Amazing', which was, in part, inspired by Muhammad Ali's life and struggles and at the time of his death, when so many people are celebrating his life and thinking about all he achieved, it seemed the right time to release it."

Here's more on Ali's musical legacy.
  • The song was Peter Gabriel's first single release in nearly three years, following the 2013 track "Why Don't You Show Yourself" from the live concert album and film Back to Front: Live in London.
