Songfacts®:

  • This lush ballad is the opening track from British singer-songwriter Robbie Williams' eighth solo album, Reality Killed the Video Star.
  • The lyrics were rewritten to pay tribute to Michael Jackson following his death on 25 June 2009. Williams blogged: "Couldn't get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs. When he passed away I rewrote it with him in mind." However during his BBC Electric Proms concert in London on October 20, 2009, Williams confessed: "I thought it was about Michael Jackson, but it's actually about me again."
  • The song was co-written by James Bond lyricist Don Black.
