Songfacts®:

  • "Nan's Song" is an incredibly emotional ballad about Robbie Williams' late grandmother, Bertha Talbot. Williams was very close to her, and even has the letter "B" tattooed behind his left ear in her honor. Williams sings about being reassured Bertha is in heaven, looking down at him with pride:

I miss your love, I miss your touch
But I'm feeling you every day
And I can almost hear you say
"You've come a long way, baby"
  • This was the first song Williams wrote entirely by himself, without the input of his longtime collaborator Guy Chambers. He explained on his website: "I completely wrote everything, the words and the music. It's about my nan who passed away. She was a lovely person, and she loved me to death, and I thought it was only fitting that my first-ever song should be about someone I love."
  • "Nan's Song" is taken from Williams' fifth album, Escapology. It was the first album Williams released after signing with EMI for a record-breaking £80 million. The album saw Williams growing in confidence as a songwriter, with EMI affording the British singer greater creative control over the project. Escapology debuted at #1 in the UK and spawned four singles: "Feel," "Come Undone," "Something Beautiful," and "Sexed Up."
