Songfacts®:

  • This whispery ballad fuses Spanish-language pop with the R&B rhythms of trap. Shakira is joined on the song by her fellow Colombian singer Maluma, one of two collaborations between the pair on El Dorado. (He also collaborated with her on "Chantaje.")
  • It was Afo Verde, Sony's CEO for the Latin Region, who recommended Maluma to the songstress. Shakira said in a Beats 1 interview:

"I wasn't even that familiar with his work and someone in the company, Afo Verde, had been an excellent support for me in this whole process. He suggested that I met with him and we got in the studio to see what happens and man, it was like the most terrific three days. In two days we did two songs, we produced them we wrote the music, lyrics, everything together, which is very rare you know. We walked out from the studio with two amazing songs that are a part of this album."
  • In a Billboard magazine interview, Verde explained the appeal of pairing the Latin stars: "I was fascinated with her evolution from a global sensation to recording again as a mom. What was going to happen with all that sensuality? I thought those two together could do amazing things."
