Songfacts®:

  • "Some Things I'll Never Know" is a soulful and introspective ballad about the complexities of love and loss. Teddy Swims paints a vivid picture of a mind seeking clarity and understanding amid the fragments of a shattered relationship.

"I'm the kind of person that wants to know I've turned over every stone and done absolutely everything I possibly could to keep someone in my life," said Swims. "But, sometimes you can't control what people do or know why people do the things they do. Some relationships end without any closure and leave you with nothing but questions."
  • Teddy Swims wrote "Some Things I'll Never Know" with former One Direction hitmakers John Ryan and Julian Bunetta alongside frequent Kesha collaborator Ammo, plus Eli Teplin, Sherwyn, and Kendrick Nicholls. Bunetta and Teplin also produced the track.
  • "Some Things I'll Never Know" is the opening track on Teddy Swims' debut album, I've Tried Everything but Therapy (Part 1). The song lays the groundwork for the record's exploration of Swims' quest for emotional healing.
  • Teddy Swims released a remix featuring Maren Morris on November 17, 2023. Morris fell ill on the only day she could be in the studio but was still able to lay down her vocal.

"I was a little bummed that it was the only day I could do the vocal and I was sick," she said. "And so [Julian Bunetta and John Ryan] were assuring me that it still sounded good, even though I felt so stopped up in it. But it maybe added to my heartbreak in the vocal."
  • The recording process was a memorable experience for the "My Church" singer.

"It was definitely an experience that I'll never forget, just because I didn't think about hitting certain notes perfectly," Maren Morris recalled. "I wasn't overthinking or over analyzing. I was just so in the emotions of Teddy's vocal, and just found my footing throughout the second verse, and just feeling like you see God or something when you get to harmonize with a vocal like Teddy's."
  • The song has an extra meaning for Morris. At the time of the recording, she was in the process of divorcing her husband of five years, Ryan Hurd.

"It just resonates - the meaning of the lyric resonates with me so much right now," she said. "It's just such a beautiful song with or without me on it, but I'm obviously so honored to be a small part of this one."
