Songfacts®:

  • This is a track from Kids In The Street, the fourth studio album by American rock band The All-American Rejects. Greg Wells, who is known for his work with Adele and OneRepublic, among many others, produced the entire album. The producer was able to reconcile the group's technical and improvisatory sides, resulting in Kids being built less on marathon rehearsals and more on feel. "We definitely in the past have been so preoccupied with technical perfection that maybe it got in the way of the vibe a little," rhythm guitarist Mike Kennerty admitted to Billboard magazine. "We strived to capture vibe first and foremost."
  • Because of this more flexible way of recording, for the first time some of the Rejects' songs hadn't been completed by the time they were ready to record them at the studio. "There's a song called 'Walk Over Me,' I didn't even have a solo for it… I had to have everybody leave the room [to record]," lead guitarist Nick Wheeler said to Billboard magazine, laughing. "I was like, this is weird, I can't fu--ing do this with everybody watching me."
  • Nick Wheeler told us that he and lead singer Tyson Ritter wrote this on a songwriting retreat where they stayed in a remote cabin in Portland, Maine. The kitchen was stocked with epicurean delights, which Nick used to assign titles to the songs. This song had a bluesy riff, so he named it "Maine Bluesberry Jam," which was later changed to the more reasonable "Walk Over Me." One of his foodie titles did stick: "Beekeeper's Daughter."
