Songfacts®:

  • Vampire Weekend's Father of the Bride album finds frontman Ezra Koenig writing more direct lyrics than on previous releases. "Spring Snow," which tells the story of a relationship nearing an end, is a prime example.
  • The couple in this song spend one last night together, conscious that a new season in their lives is about to start.

    The snow fell last night
    Your flight couldn't leave
    Come back to the bed
    Let's take this reprieve

"Spring Snow" was one of the first songs written for Father of the Bride, and it helped determine the record's shape. Koenig explained to Uncut: "It gave me confidence that this album could contain some short story type songs. That song is about a fleeting moment and actually, looking back, a lot of the others are, too."
  • The Justin Bieber collaborator Blood Pop has a co-writing credit on the song. He also co-produced the track along with Ezra Koenig and Vampire Weekend's regular collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid. Koenig told Q Magazine about writing with BloodPop.

"He's always been cool to work with because he's in such a different world to me in terms of what he's known for, big pop stuff, Justin Bieber, but he and I had so much fun in the studio cooking up with little ideas. Spring Snow was an early one he and I started together. He pitched my vocals in this way and then we added a bit of Ariel to it and it really starts to feel like Vampire Weekend. He's such a hilarious dude and has a unique taste on culture and music."
