Songfacts®:

  • This was one of seven songs that Willie Nelson wrote with his songwriter pal Hank Cochran one night in 1970. The pair penned the septet of tunes in the basement of Willie's home in Ridgetop, Tennessee. The title proved eerily prophetic as the next day, Willie's house burned down.
