  • Have yourself a merry little Christmas
    Let your heart be light
Next year all our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
    Make the yuletide gay
Next year all our troubles will be miles away

Once again as in olden days
    Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were near to us
Will be dear to us once more

Someday soon we all will be together
    If the fates allow
Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now Writer/s: Hugh Martin, Ralph Blane
    Publisher: Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC

  • Eric Folkerth from DallasQuestion about James Taylor's version...
He sings "In a year, we all will be together..."
Which I assumed was the original lyrics...but doesn't appear to be.
Anybody know where that change came from?
  • Garry from Anchorage, AkThe Ralph Blane lyric that Judy Garland objected to the most was this: "Have yourself a merry little Christmas. It may be your last. Next year we may all be living in the past." Judy Garland thought the lyric was awful and would be too cruel to sing to 7 year old Margaret O'Brien. Blane willingly changed it.
  • Mark from London, EnglandMy favourite Christmas song from ythe film that should have got the Oscar for Best Picture.Margaret O'Brien-one of the few child stars who didn't make me want to throw up!
  • Jaytee from Austin, TxWhen I first saw and heard Judy Garland sing this in the movie, I was bowled over. I still am, in fact. She has an immediacy while singning this that is astounding.
  • Claire from Oak Ridge, TnI consider this my personal Christmas song. It's not like all the ultra-sappy Christmas music also on the radio. I have wached "Meet Me In St. Louis" too many times to count!
  • Ken from Louisville, KyA version of this song sung by Al Martino is heard playing on a radio in "The Godfather". Martino played Don Corleone's godson Johnny Fontaine.
  • Greg from MelbourneI was told that the original lyrics to this song were "Have yourself a very Merry Christmas, It could be your last". The producers and Judy Garland promised the writers that they would have a hit on their hands if only they made the lyrics more optimistic.
  • Garry from Anchorage, AkIn "Meet Me In St. Louis," Judy Garland sang this to a young and tearful Margaret O'Brien who was given a special Oscar award for the year's best child actress. Margaret stole every scene she was in.
  • Jude from Thomasville, GaNo one puts a song across like Judy Garland. She has a remarkable voice. Just fantastic.
